Day 1 - 2011 China

Although missing Frances Fuqua, the Pace Academy Knights embarked on a journey across the world.
It’s been about seven hours and Pace Academy students- and faculty, including Mrs. Sibley’s sister - are still going strong. Eric, however has managed to trip one passenger, get reprimanded by a flight attendant because of limbs overflowing in the aisle while he was sleeping, and be kindly asked by the woman in front of him not to hit his screen to hard - it wakes her up. To add to Eric’s frazzling experiences with other flyers Mrs. Sibley had a terribly unfortunate accident of her own. First, however, I must give you background to her situation. You know those times when Ms. Smith tells you to read and take notes on articles she sends you, but really you skim the articles without taking a single note. Well, today I learned that Mrs. Sibley is NOT that kind of woman. In fact, she loves taking notes, and she loves her notes. And for those of you who are suspicious that Mrs. Sibley even took any notes at all, I can vouch that she did.  After taking part in what I thought were very interesting conversations with Mrs. Sibley, she left me bored and lonely only to bury herself in reading and note taking on ancient China, but come on, who wouldn’t want to take notes on ANCIENT CHINA?!

Anyway, for some reason that I don’t really want to know, Mrs. Sibley took her notes with her to the rest room and dropped them in the toilet! A few minutes later a very grumpy Mrs. Sibley walked out of the rest room with her notes drenched in water; naturally she thought it necessary to wash her notes with soap and water. Nonetheless, however, she soon went back to her immensely cool, ‘hip,’ and funny self. Her sister’s pretty awesome too--talk about immediate clicking with the student body. Let’s just say the Sibley sisters have hit off it fairly well with us.

Now, on to Mr. Gannon. Mr. Gannon is just one of those awesome people that you secretly want to know better, but I’ve gathered so far is that he LOVES to read. It started in the terminal when he was casually flipping through Internet webpages, I presume, on his iPad. Then on the plane, it literally wouldn’t stop. I felt like he was reading enough for all the students put together. First, it was the newspaper, some movie, or TV show. I assure you, though, that we will come back with more on Mr. Gannon. He’s watching Inception now, and Eric has decided that his head is going to be hurting by the time we land: no sleep for nineteen hours, time change, and Inception are never a good combination.

As for the students, not to toot my own horn or anything, but I’d like to say that we’re a motley crew. And if you’re wondering about our bonding, practically complete. Simon Wu is, as usual, chugging away at homework. He has explained to all of that we have it very, very bad: “not only do we have to catch up on the homework but we must also get ahead on it because we get home Monday night.” Very true Simon, maybe I can give you my homework? Grant and Margaret are sitting next to Mr. Gannon, Helen is somewhere away from the junior pack but very close in our hearts, and Simon and Hayley are behind Eric and me.

  1. What you said about Eric already getting scolded by three people cracked me up! I'm sure this will happen the whole trip! Bless his heart. Keep this coming Zeena! Very funny.
